Meet Mary.
Mary Carter
Running + Endurance
I am 60 yrs old, married to a wonderful man that supports my dreams. I have 2 beautiful adult children in their 30’s, and a 5 yr old Jack Russel Terrier named Bud. When I’m not Running or Coaching, you’ll find me & Bud in the garden. I love growing things. Runners and Plants.
I started running competitively in my high school years. After cycling through a couple of decades of life and inactivity, I found myself starting over with running at the age of 48. Initially to lose weight, then I found my passion for running longer distances. I’ve been truly hooked since I ran my first 5k. Since then, there have been many races, from 5k, 5mile, 10k, 10mile, HM and the Marathon.
Through the cycles of life, my own journey with running has been a quest in itself for answers when quitting was not an option.
My passion to help others through coaching was born from my experience of several years Volunteer Youth Coach from 2004-2009. I truly love seeing runners develop to their potential. As an adult, my return to running in 2009 led to my own experience with group programs. It opened my eyes to the need for a more individualized approach.
I teach my runners about what they are doing. When they understand not just the purpose of a single session, but how it fits into a long term plan, there is always a better outcome. Experience has taught me that I need to know more to grow as a runner and as a coach. I love to run and to learn.
My path to Professional Coaching started with becoming Certified in 2012, and only led to a Quest for more knowledge. After nearly a decade I started my online Coaching business & appropriately named it Quest Endurance. I have coached runners from all over the United States and from abroad in England.
I was overjoyed to see Leanne Rosser take a True Leap of Faith in 2019 to start Northside Running. I have been part of this group for over a year now as a runner. I have truly found a place where I am welcome as I am. I’m not too slow or too old. I can walk or run as I please. There is always fellowship to be had no matter who you are as a runner or in life. I’m comfortable in this group to truly be myself. Northside has become my second family. I am thrilled to join the Roster of Coaching Staff and I’m looking forward to what life brings next.
